WEBSITE FOR SKATERS

Talkin' to one of the local skateboarders we agreed on making a website so that all skaters in Greenland can upload their videos and get to know each other. I'm trying to get either on TV or on KNR's website so that the information gets out.

The adress is: http://www.77jcm.net/skateboardgreenland/ - the idea is basically that people upload theyr stuff at youtube. The site is just kind of a poster and hub for aquiring password and username for the YouTube account.

URBAN WINTER GREENLAND

April the 9Th I spent ½ of a day on walking the city. Here you go. How urban is this place? Following video have following tag on YouTube:

- Urban Winter Greenland
- Urban Winter Greenland Leisure
- Urban Winter Greenland Skidoo
- Urban Winter Greenland Graffiti
- Urban Winter Greenland Harbour
- Urban Winter Greenland Bus Ride 1
- Urban Winter Greenland Bus Ride 2

IT IS BY NO MEANS MEANT AS REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE "URBAN/URBANITY" OF SISIMIUT. JUST AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT YOU CAN ENCOUNTER IN THE 2ND BIGGEST CITY IN GREENLAND.

A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING?

Many things are happening right now. On top of that I feel exhausted and my stay is about to end. This week I had several nights where I was unable to sleep. The night from Thursday to Friday; I went to bed at 23.00 and fell first asleep at 04.30! I also miss my family and my dear wife very, very, very much. It has been little crazy for all of us.
Focusing on the positive things, I’m having really great interviews with plenty informants. It seems as well that writing a diary clears your thoughts. Major energy booster this week was material from Klaus Berthelsen of which I bring more here.
I also have a good feeling about meeting the students at the Technical School. Since app. August last year I have been working on a project theme for Technology Class, together with teacher at the Technical School, Kirsten Ramskov Galamba. It has been a long but very interesting process. I not only meet the pupils who will work with some of my ideas, but also the environment in which they spend most of their time during the week. To that I can add a lot of interesting and challenging meetings with the educational system, who really gave me a great welcome. We made it to produce material on the theme of “LEISURE” which the students use as inspiration, guidelines etc. for their product, reports, research – from the point of view of LOCALITY, INDUSTRY/ENTREPRENEURSHIP, SKILLS, FAMILY & FRIENDS.
This week I had an opportunity to meet one of the classes who will work on the LEISURE project. I spent 3 hours on talking about my background and my/our ideas/objectives with the project. I also used a presentation about Greenlandic graffiti to discuss locality, style etc. in Greenland. My teaching was more of a kind like guiding. I used a couple of small assignments in the class, like tell about the person next to you, about what he does in his/her leisure time. Write down what you associate graffiti with? It worked well. The students gave me and each other some pretty good questions. Simple, but hard, specific and intense.
OK this is maybe written in a little but confusing manner. Its not confusion that has got into me. It is just not simple to choose what to blog about anymore. There is a lot material and lot of it is unbelievable. Enjoy the work in the following videos.

PROJECT FOR SANILIN (TECHNICAL SCHOOL)

Following video/animation is a project turned in at SANILIN (Technical School) in Sisimiut. The objectives of the project was to create an environment for a Youth Club, based on available data about the house structure and measurements. The creator of the material in the video has taken it a step further into 3D. The music is an improvisation created by the same author, the stills/images and music put together by myself, so you can peek into skills, visions and creativity from a young person in Sisimiut.
...I think I asked my informant about 5 times; "..did you copy and paste from somewhere?" Nope, he did not. All made in CINEMA 4D by MAXON

IN THE GOOD HOUSE, AFTER ALL

Being mad is a light phrasing in regards of my mood today. I’m in trouble because I can’t solve out a problem regarding money transfer from the Uni. I mean, I may have a generous amount of funding for my project, but I’m not getting a credit for 20.000 Danish crowner out of my pocket (the amount is the approx. cost of 1 month fieldwork expenses during the wintertime - I use a lot of funds on transportation, materials and backup media.) Hopefully things change tomorrow, it has been over 3 weeks of waiting.

What made my day?

Daytrip on snowboard ended today with 1½ hour in the company of one of the local snowboard champs’ - Nukaaka Berhtelsen. Thanks for the lecture. I think the video speaks for it self (by the way – it’s on request, the really “crazy” stuff is off the camera). I also included an image from the summer. N.B. is also a skilled skateboarder.

- todays route from dorms to the snowboarding area.
